Before doors opened at The Studio, Jena, the owner of The Studio and A Step To Health, invited me to collaborate with her to bring The Studio’s vision into a physical reality and find wonderful teachers in a wide variety of movement styles. It’s been a delight and privilege to work with Jena to support our community of students and teachers!
For the past 6 years, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed managing The Studio. The first part of that time I also taught weekly yoga classes. Since 2020, I’ve been grateful to get to continue supporting The Studio remotely, from my current home in Berlin, Germany.
Here are just a few of the standout moments from teaching and managing at The Studio that always make me smile:
Last-minute subbing for a teacher who couldn’t make it, where I had to race over with a deep conditioning mask still in my hair.
A weekend get-together with folks from Mindful Yoga, to move and sing along to Elton John songs!
Helping new students find classes to fit their interests and needs, and watching their confidence grow over time.
Getting creative with fitting every interested student into open house and anniversary mini-classes. I think we once managed to fit 18 into a MELT foam-rolling session!
Finding and orienting team members who have become dear, close friends over the years.
If we’ve ever been in class together, you have heard me say, “listen to your body,” MANY many times. Several years ago, following a viral infection, I developed a neuroimmune illness called myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS), which significantly limits my physical and cognitive function. Since getting sick, my body has been telling me, ever louder and more clearly, to rest with everything I’ve got.
To honor that message, I’m passing the baton to Pamir Kiciman’s capable and thoughtful hands, as he takes over the role of managing The Studio alongside Jena. It’s been a joy to be a part of this wonderful little community and I’m looking forward to seeing where the future takes The Studio!
