Immediate and longterm benefits of moving the body

According to the CDC, physical activity has many immediate and long-term benefits.

  • Moving your body has immediate benefits for brain health, including improved cognition and reduced anxiety.

  • Weekly physical movement can lower your risk for heart disease and stroke, together with lowering blood pressure and improving cholesterol.

  • With age, it's important to exercise and protect your bones, joints and muscles. Being unable to do daily tasks like shopping, cleaning and going up the stairs is called, 'functional limitation.' Doing a variety of physical movement reduces such limitations and decreases the risk of falls and accidents.

  • Regular movement can help to manage existing chronic conditions and disabilities such as arthritis and type 2 diabetes.
